I know of a case where the wife for the same reason. She asked him to meet her to talk things over and wound up getting pregnant. And that's how she persuaded him to buy a bigger house for their growing family. Mission accomplished! Of course, he had to start working even more hours. She didn't work at all.

I was wondering how this would play out in JW land.
by wolverines ini have a niece who is trying to get pregnant.
she was telling me her husband had to go to a room with porn in it and masturbate into a cup to get tested.
i never thought of this before but but how would a jw handle this.

I remember some article from the Borg about 20 years ago about IVF. (Not their most recent tirade that equated donor sperm or eggs or even surrogacy with adultery.). Basically, it acknowledged that IVF using the sperm and eggs of a couple married to each other was acceptable. But then it added something along the lines of, "The way the sperm is extracted may raise concerns."
They are so concerned that someone might masturbate that they cast aspersions on it even when it's a necessary part of an approved method of trying to conceive a child. Sheesh! Get a life!

AUSTRALIA | 23 July 2020 - Jehovah’s Witnesses Kingdom Hall bomber found guilty by Supreme Court
by jwleaks inleonard warwick has been found guilty for a number of bombings committed during the 1980’s, including the family court bombing and the jehovah’s witnesses casula congregation kingdom hall bombing on 21 july 1985 which killed the public speaker, graham wykes, and injured 13 others.. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-07-23/leonard-warwick-family-court-bomber-found-guilty/12483286.
side note: i have been closely following this story for 35 years now, including the past few years of supreme court hearings, much of which dealt with the jehovah’s witnesses kingdom hall bombing..

Wow! I heard of this case several years ago, but had no idea it was still ongoing. Glad it appears to be settled now except for the sentencing. I don't know if Australia has the death penalty, but being locked up for life will at least keep him from doing something similar again.
I do well and truly hate this cult for what it does to otherwise perfectly wonderful people and their families, but violence is not the answer. Far better to keep exposing the evil chicanery its leadership uses to keep their mind-control victims under their thumb. Especially in Australia, there's a chance their self-serving policies may cost them any government protections they now enjoy, especially their precious tax status. I hope the penalties and taxes finally make them go bankrupt. They're already morally bankrupt.
Note: To be clear, my disdain and rancor is for the organization itself and the policies of its leadership, not the individual members. Many of the rank and file followers are true believers who are trapped in the Borg, for one reason or another. It's just too bad they can't or won't open their eyes to what is happening all around them.

JW (and other religions) excuses for messing up when trying to understand prophesies.
by RubaDub inthis is not a jw-bashing thing, but it always seemed odd to me that the "excuse" when things go wrong is that "we have to wait and see how the prophesy is fulfilled" or some other wording.. my question has always been, then what is the purpose of the prophesy if you don't understand it until after the fact?
isn't that like having a weather forecast but being told that we don't really know what the weather will be until the next day?
isn't that the purpose of prophesy?.

Back when my PIMI sister would discuss such things with me, we got on the topic of prophecy. She eventually just shrugged her shoulders and said, "Sometimes we can't understand a prophecy until it's fulfilled.
Amazed at the breathtaking incongruity of such a statement, I could only say, "What is the point of a prophecy if you can't understand it until it's fulfilled? Anybody can point to some event afterwards and say, "See! I knew it! I told you so! That's just what I was talking about!""
Just like newspaper horoscopes, if you're vague enough, you can claim to have predicted almost anything.

i popped them out and asked her to repeat herself.. “that’s a beautiful bicycle you have there.

Another great story, Terry! I wonder what ever happened to that letter she wanted read at her funeral. I bet the Society still has their copy, squirreled away just in case they ever want to use for propaganda purposes. Wouldn't it horrible if some apostate hacker dug it up and put it on the internet?

I will never be a slave to the overseers of political correctness. I shall shuffle over to my master bedroom and peruse the whitelist of approved words. I don't want to be blacklisted for using banned words. Also, I don't personally know Tom Lynch, but I think he should change his last name because of the implied association with systemic racism in the past.

If any individual elders have any assets to speak of, I'd bet their lawyers and/or financial advisors would strongly urge them to resign their positions immediately. It sure seems like the Borg is trying to leave them high and dry. I just wouldn't chance it if I were them.

Wicked, evil and morally bankrupt criminally oriented organisation fails to sign up to victim redress scheme.
by Holey_Cheeses*King_of_the juice. into those who are familiar with the watchtower crime syndicate it comes as no surprise that the borg has bluntly refused to participate in the australian government arrangement for organisations found responsible for the abuse of innocent victims of sexual assault to be compensated for the abuse inflicted as determined by a royal commission.. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-07-01/government-names-shames-institutions-not-part-of-redress-scheme/12406850.
if you are an active, or in anyway associated with this group of low life pieces of worthless shit, you should be also named and shamed.. cheeses.
now even more a hater of these grubs.

I hope this, along with the Swiss Court's ruling that the anti-cult activist's charges against them were factual under the law, will bring the Borg under even greater scrutiny and into greater disrepute.
I'd love to see them lose all official status, especially their tax advantages and any official recognition.

Very moving story, Terry. You're a wonderfully gifted writer, able to put into words what others (like me) find hard to even read, much less express.
That said, I'm so glad you got to catch up with your old friend. I hope that belated connection offers you both some comfort, even if things haven't gone spectacularly well for either of you and there's far too much water under the bridge for things to change course now.
I hope you can bear to stay in touch. I think you'll be glad you did.
Take care, my friend. Looking forward to your next tale.
